Kevin roosts in an abandoned church in rural Ohio, contemplating the religious art and assembling an impressive collection of nail polish from the local Walgreens. He is hiding from his identity as the vampire Gaius Severus, who feasted on the punk rock scene in New York in the 1980s. In chapter two, his den is invaded by a bumbling vampire hunter named Edvard von Heusen, who after being defeated in a brief fight across the apse of the church is revealed to be someone else entirely . . .
